Coal is made mainly out of of carbon and other elements in varying amounts. The way coal is formed is when plants die and are put under heat and pressure by the earth for millions of years reducing the oxygen in them they can turn into coal or oil. Similar to how charcoal is created through burning something under pressure(only with charcoal it is more of a matter of hours than millions of years). Something interesting about this is diamonds are carbon and are made through pretty much the same process as coal and oil only even more pressure is applied. Something else that is fairly interesting is humans and animals are all made out of carbon so they could be turned into coal.
